Your gift will serve ALL of the children, as 10% of each Waiting Child Donation is shared with our Voice of Hope fund, as well!
Suvi came into care at the age of 2 years old when she was found to be severely malnourished in her remote village where she had no access to medical care. It was determined that Suvi suffers from a rare condition known as Cutis Lax, which is a group of conditions that result in loose connective tissue including muscles, joints, skin and other organs. Children with this condition appear to be prematurely aged as Suvi does. To learn more, visit the National Organization for Rare Disorders informational page on Curtis Lax. She is not currently on any medications. She sees the several specialists, and it is known that Suvi will need surgeries in the future on her spine.

Suvi is a calm child who lives with a foster mother that has fostered children with disabilities for many years. She attends a special school and has made progress since starting there. While she does do her school work, it is not with much academic skill and her teacher believes she will not make cognitive progress in learning and memory. Suvi’s foster mother reports she is obedient, affectionate, more autonomous, knows where her belongings are and is concerned about her self-care. While she is autonomous in some ways, she is dependent in others. For example, she wears diapers as it is not expected she will ever be able to use the restroom on her own, and while her motor skills have improved to the point she can walk (with difficulty) and crawl, she uses a wheelchair for long trips. She can take off and put on her shoes and clothes with assistance, washing herself in the bath, as well as some other tasks. Suvi does not have verbal language, though her foster mother reports she says things such as “I love you” and “thank you” though she would not speak for an assessment. However, she is able to express her emotions and needs to those who care for her. She is said to have many friends at her school and interacts favorably with others.

Suvi is a girly girl who loves having flowers and other accessories in her hair. When her hair is combed, she smiles. She loves pink and purple clothing, and enjoys playing with her baby doll she has named Baby. She enjoys playing with Barbie dolls, paint, dance and sing, watch Bluey, eat ice cream, and listen to music. Suvi needs a two-parent family who can commit the time and attention she needs to help her develop to her optimal abilities and who can ensure she receives the ongoing medical care she requires.

Jais is generally healthy — it is reported he needs glasses. Jais is calm and loving towards those around him. He expresses his desires easily.  A specific agency has a $3,000 grant available for his adoption.

Update Feb 2020: This file is old, so the information is from one year ago. He is verbal. He attends speech therapy. He has some difficulty pronouncing some words. His speech is delayed according to his age. A year ago he was using diapers, but he was telling when he had to get it changed because he felt discomfort. He is very affectionate, very loving, and respectful with adults. He follows norms and rules. He was sometimes pulling the hair of peers at school. The neurologist states he is a child that has progressed a lot since he has been receiving therapies and recommended that he not stop them.

Agency staff met Jais in July 2022: Jais is a cute little guy who is described as calm and loving towards those around him. He expresses his desires easily. Jais is currently attending school and is in the second grade. It has been a process for him to adjust to being with other children. Jais likes music and he dances to the rhythm. He likes to be cuddled and touched, especially by his foster parents. In addition to having Down syndrome, Jais likely also has Autism. Due to his potential autism diagnosis, Jais has a hard time with transitions, changes, and strangers. He loves cars, especially being inside one! His foster parents take him for vacations, and he enjoys going to the beach. He loves being in the car so much, that he doesn’t even mind if he’s in there for hours…so road trips are a go! Jais can say the words, “mom,” “dad,” “water,” “ayyaya” and “hey.” Jais sleeps through the night, but has a special position that he feels most comfortable in. He likes to first fall asleep with his foster mother in her bed and then be taken to his bed. Jais wakes up at 5:30 a.m. and cuddles with his foster parents for a little bit. Jais is a good eater, but oatmeal doesn’t make his stomach feel well. Jais has been living with his current foster family since he was two months old. Jais started walking at four years old and his foster mother is now trying to teach him how to ride a bike. He is now able to chew and swallow.

Our sweet Bria, born in August of 2012,  finds joy in connecting with nature. Dancing allows her to express herself freely, while walking to the local farm brings a sense of peace. Bria’s laughter is infectious, spreading joy and warmth to those around her. Bria’s comfort in both observing and participating in play activities suggests a personality that values both independence and social interaction. She willingly engages with others, regardless of age. Bria shows affection spontaneously and reciprocates when it is given to her, which suggests that she is capable of forming healthy relationships and bonds with others.

Bria may not be able to speak with words, but her actions speak volumes. Her gestures and expressions convey her emotions and needs in a way that her caretakers understand. Her ability to dress herself independently shows her determination and self-sufficiency. Bria may communicate differently than others, but her message is clear: she is capable, strong, and deserving of love.

When faced with unfamiliar faces, Bria can feel overwhelmed and anxious. She may struggle to trust new people. It is important for those around her to be patient and understanding, allowing her the time and space she needs to feel comfortable and secure in new environments. With time and support, Bria may learn to develop stronger social skills. We think she is truly a special person to know!
